AMBULANCE SERVICES
MCMO provides primary first response, Advanced Life Support "911"
coverage to nearly two thirds of Mason County. Our service area is
approximately 600 square miles. We primarily respond
with the city of Shelton and 10 of the 14 fire districts within the county. We handle both emergent and non-emergent inter-facility
transport services for Mason General Hospital, several skilled and
assisted living facilities, and from private citizens requiring
medical transport within our service
area. In 2007, MCMO responded to over 5,000 requests for service.
All pre-hospital emergency medical care is
performed under the direction of our Medical Program Director, Mason
General Hospital ER Physician, Dr. Joseph Hoffman, MD.
SPECIAL EVENTS
MCMO also provides ambulance stand-by coverage for many of the special
and community events in the county, including the Shelton Drag Races,
Mason County Fair and Rodeo, Shelton School District - Kids Week and,
Oysterfest to name a few. Recently, MCMO crews started providing
bicycle teams in addition to our stand-by crews at several local, high
population events in order to ensure prompt medical attention where
conventional emergency vehicular responses are delayed, due to the
high volume of pedestrian traffic.
COMMUNITY TRAINING
MCMO is continually seeking ways to help enhance safety in the
community and improve the skills of our fellow EMS providers. We
accomplish this through our diligent community education. MCMO
provides personnel who are certified as 1st Aid, CPR and AED
instructors to area schools and businesses. We also have EMT
instructors and evaluators who assist local fire districts with EMT
classes and continuing education programs. We participate in
school career days and have personnel who give informational talks to
educate young students about possible future careers in emergency
medical services.
